Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development visited São Brás de Alportel to learn about fire prevention work

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel received this Thursday, August 8, the Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, Miguel Freitas, in a meeting and visit to the municipality, to evaluate the preventive work carried out in the municipality at the level of the municipality. Forest Fire Defense (DFCI).

The working meeting, held at the Paços do Concelho building, was attended by the Regional Director of the Algarve Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, Joaquim Castelão Rodrigues; the District Operational Commander, Vitor Vaz Pinto; the coordinator of the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Civil Protection Service, Vitor Martins; Mayor Vitor Guerreiro, Vice-President Marlene Guerreiro and Alderman David Gonçalves and the Mayor João Rosa.

 

Following the meeting, Vitor Guerreiro accompanied the Secretary of State on an air reconnaissance visit, to better understand and evaluate the vast work carried out, namely the fuel management strip of the 125 meter wide primary network on more than 200 hectares in the mountainous area of ​​the state. county.

Throughout this year, the Forestry Technical Office and the Municipal Civil Protection Service have coordinated the implementation of forest fire prevention preventive measures as part of the Municipal Rural Fire Prevention Strategy 2019.

 

A wide range of work has been carried out on the ground: in addition to the 125-meter wide and 218.75-hectare main fuel management lanes of the primary network, 24-hectare clearing work has been carried out in the Boar cluster, 11 hectares in the Outeiro / Juncais cluster and 5.7 hectares in the Bico Alto cluster, priority fire prevention sites.

The visit also included a stop at the Head of Velho site, where the Secretary of State and other entities present had the opportunity to meet with the set of partner entities, working in the field, namely: the Army, the Republican National Guard – GIPS , the São Brás de Alportel Volunteer Firefighters, the Municipal Forest Sappers team, the Forest Sappers Team of the Serra do Caldeirão Forest Producers Association, as well as the security officers
