Second edition of the Find Your Emotions Exhibition will be on May 9th at La Distillerie
The exhibition brings together works by artists Filipe Amaral, David Reis Pinto, Stenio Oliveira and Gabriel Gemaque, in Lisbon.
After the public and business success of the first edition, the Find Your Emotions exhibition is back in Lisbon. The exhibition, which has the interpretation of emotions as its guiding thread, will this time bring together the works of four artists on May 9th at La Distillerie: the Portuguese Filipe Amaral and David Reis Pinto and the Brazilians Stenio Oliveira and Gabriel Gemaque. Coming from different experiences and styles, the four connect through art, converge on the central theme of the exhibition and invite the public to find their own interpretation of the theme through the works on display.
The event is curated and organized by the duo Renata Hessel and Luciana Sampaio.
According to Renata, “the exhibition invites the public to find their emotions and, just like in the first edition, it brings together visual arts and music, making them understand art, and the feelings it provokes, through the stimulation of other senses”.
“To complete the atmosphere of this event in the iconic space of La Distillerie, we invited saxophonist André Moisés, who will perform throughout the night. And, to the sound of jazz, we will also have the taste of the exclusive menu prepared by chef Patrícia Gomes and a special selection of wines made by the wine cellar 111 Vinhos”, reveals Luciana Sampaio.
In the first edition of the Find Your Emotions exhibition, held in 2022, the works exhibited at the Cerâmica Lemos studio, in Graça, were created by the Belgian artist Jan Samyn, the Brazilian painter Ronan Horta and the Brazilian sculptor Ricardo Lemos.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

FILIPE AMARAL

Filipe Amaral is from Vila de Arraiolos and has numerous solo exhibitions and participation in group exhibitions, namely in Spain, France, England, Brazil and the United States. He is represented in several art galleries, as well as in private and institutional collections, in Portugal and abroad, and is mentioned in several painting books and other publications. He illustrated posters for public events and covers of several books.
Graduated from the Faculty of Human Motricity and trained in Painting at Ar.Co, he also studied engraving at the Portuguese Engravers Cooperative and studied tile manufacturing techniques at the National Tile Museum. He uses various media for his creations: painting, sculpture and engraving, not only with the usual materials but also with other more unusual and/or innovative ones. He is an artist especially known for the way he uses abstract symbolism, with strident colours, in very diverse materials, where oils, industrial paints, palette knives and acrylics construct the pieces that are part of each idealized project. His versatility and curiosity led him to research such as intervention in ruins or the creation of past stories.

DAVID REIS PINTO

David Reis Pinto was born in Faro, grew up in Beja and studied Architecture at the University of Évora, where he also completed an integrated master’s degree. The artist has works exhibited in Mexico, the USA, Brazil, England, Holland, Belgium, Angola and Israel, and has been represented by several artistic entities, such as the Embaixada do Príncipe Real, the gallery Welcome to Art Lisbon, the collective Oficina Impossível, the Arty Collections gallery in Azeitão and Coletivo 284. In addition to his artistic work, he engages in social interventions, and solidarity exhibitions and works to raise funds for restorations. He participated in the last 4 editions of AAA, Ateliers dos Artistas Abertos de Lisboa and developed the project “A trepadeira” with the artist Nuno Lacerda and students from the AFID Institution, among other collaborative and educational initiatives. Colour is the essence of his art, with the main premise being the contrast between light and shadow, and he seeks, with different techniques, to develop new expressions of life through an optimistic vision and with different guises. It appeals to history, inspiration and a new place, the place of aesthetic and non-aesthetic emotions, led by the freedom to use colour in a real, figurative or even abstract way.

Stenio Oliveira

Stenio Oliveira is a Brazilian artist with a degree in Visual Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas and a Master in Architecture and Lighting from the Instituto IPOG Conzorcio Politecnico di Milano. His research questions the fantastic, erotic and spiritual universe, incorporating studies on cosmogenesis, chromaticism, psychoanalysis and matter. He also appropriates compositional ideas to create a universe that moves between the pictorial and the sculptural, giving rise to sculptures, paintings, objects and expanded paintings using multiple materials. Currently, Stenio Oliveira is part of the team of artists represented by The
House Of Arts in Miami. His work was recently exhibited in the International Americana magazine Colecta and entered the collection of Galerie Van Caelenberg in Aalst, Belgium. Since 2020, he has been part of the Marcos Amaro Foundation collection, where he participated in a donation of his works for a humanitarian campaign for COVID-19 to the UN, in partnership with Fashion Inclusive Brazil, alongside Portuguese artists Paula Rego and Joana Vasconcelos. The following year, with the reopening of fairs and cultural events around the world, he performed in Miami, at Art Basel Week, with an exhibition of his watercolour series at the Red Dot Fair, and with projections in South Beach at Casa Brasil Miami. In 2022, Stenio had his work included and commented on in the texts of the most recent work by the famous critic, essayist and art curator from Madrid Andrés Isaac Santana, in the book Gramática de Resistência.

GABRIEL GEMAQUE

Gabriel Gemaque is the youngest of the four artists, at just 24 years old. He was born in Amapá, in the north of Brazil, in a small town in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, which gives his creations a strong relationship with the land and local culture. It’s the second time he’s participated in an exhibition in Portugal – last year, 40 pieces of art he created using elements from the Amazon were presented at the Art Lounge art gallery in Lisbon. His artistic expression has a natural philosophy and attention to sociopolitical issues, such as deforestation and the identity of the indigenous community. Having studied Architecture in Portugal and the United Kingdom, he developed a contemporary vision. Multidisciplinary projects are produced in your area of study combined with passions such as arts, interior design, photography, aesthetics, philosophy and biology. He defines himself as an alchemist between Interior Design and Contemporary Art, who celebrates ambitious projects that evoke the “art of living”.
