Seixal Cultural returns from the 5th to the 21st of May
82 activities in 29 locations in the county
Seixal Cultural returns, in May, to the municipality of Seixal. From the 5th to the 21st of May, this project will travel through the parishes of the municipality, being organized by the city council in partnership with the associative movement.
The program includes 82 activities promoted by 45 entities, with actions carried out in a total of 29 locations, containing proposals in the areas of music, theater, visual arts, dance, and literature, among others. From gardens to bandstands, passing through centuries-old communities (whose history is an example of the territory’s cultural richness), Seixal Cultural seeks to cover all types of spaces where culture is present.
According to the mayor of Seixal, Paulo Silva, the main objective is «to give voice to the local culture, seeking to show the public what is best done in the municipality, in terms of the arts and the various forms of artistic expression. Because Seixal is, in fact, rich in its cultural diversity, Seixal Cultural highlights the work that is carried out daily, highlighting the active role of collectivities, associations, and cultural agents as structures that determine the culture and identity of this municipality».
This year, Seixal Cultural presents open classes, workshops, exhibitions, handicraft shows, reading of poems and music, theatre, dance, and folklore shows, to be held essentially in the spaces of the associative movement and in public places spread across all parishes, contributing to the strengthening of a municipal identity and celebrating local history and traditions. Also noteworthy is Cante Alentejano and philharmonic and choral music, contributing to the construction of a culturally active, attentive, and participatory population, in what is the right of people to access culture, conquered by the April Revolution.
Among the novelties, emphasis is placed on the presentation of projects that cross different artistic areas, namely the combination of Alentejo singing with concertinas, philharmonic music with ballroom dancing, and folklore with contemporary dance. Languages that merge to create unique shows are prepared exclusively for Seixal Cultural. Another novelty is the presentation of a set of inclusive actions, involving entities that develop an important work in order to enhance access and effective equality of opportunities for all people.
The complete schedule of Seixal Cultural can be consulted on the Seixal City Council website. Entry to events is free.
