Seminar “Giving Wings to Knowledge” honors Edgar Morin

“Multi, inter and transdisciplinary dialogues” | March 25th and 26th at ESE/IPS

The Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS), through its Center for Research in Education and Training (CIEF), promotes, between the 25th and 26th of March, the 2nd edition of the seminar “Dar Asas ao Saber”, which aims to be a forum for reflection and debate, this year around the role of education as a tool for understanding the complex and unpredictable world in which we find ourselves.

The initiative, which takes place at the premises of the Escola Superior de Educação (ESE/IPS), in a mixed form (online and face-to-face), has the theme “Multi, inter and transdisciplinary dialogues”, in homage to the French thinker Edgar Morin, who warned the risks of the compartmentalization of knowledge in an attempt to understand the world in all its diversity.

Author of “The seven pieces of knowledge for the Education of the future”, the philosopher and sociologist who has already completed a century of life, inspires the thematic approach of this meeting that takes place over two days, opening with a conference in charge of Joana Rato, neuropsychologist, professor and researcher at the Portuguese Catholic University, on “The learning cycle through the transdisciplinary lens (mind, brain and education)”.

Two thematic panels will follow, addressing interdisciplinarity as a starting point and as an interaction, with the contribution of academics from various educational institutions, several workshops, and a period of presentation of free communications subordinated to six thematic axes.

Enrollment, free for Higher Education students, is open until the 20th of March. Proposals for communication or poster presentation must be submitted by March 6th.
