OPTO SIC’s “The Chosen” series nominated for the New York Festivals – TV & Film Awards
The Portuguese production competes in the Streaming Drama category
The series “Os Eleitos”, an original production by OPTO, SIC’s streaming platform, and produced by SP Televisão, was nominated for the prestigious New York Festivals – TV & Film Awards in the Streaming Drama category.
This distinction puts the production in the spotlight on the international audiovisual scene, reinforcing the quality and relevance of the national series.
“Os Eleitos” is the only Portuguese television and streaming production to be included in this year’s list of nominees. The series thus joins OPTO’s history of content that has been recognized in these awards, as previously happened with “A Generala”, “O Clube”, “Lúcia: A Guardiã do Segredo” and “PRAXX”.
The series delves into the competitive world behind the scenes of sport, following a group of young athletes at the Monsanto High-Performance Academy. The main cast includes Joana Cravo, João Maneira, João Bettencourt and Paula Magalhães, with the participation of renowned actors such as Paula Lobo Antunes, Luís Esparteiro and Custódia Gallego. The first season of Os Eleitos, consisting of 26 episodes, premiered on Opto on December 29, 2023, and was later made available on the Prime Video platform in 2024, expanding the international reach of the Portuguese production.
The event annually distinguishes the best global television and film productions, being evaluated by a panel of more than 200 industry experts. The winners will be announced at the Storytellers Gala, a virtual event that will take place on May 22.
