Serra do Caldeirão
Serra do Caldeirão is the border between the Algarve and the Alentejo and is made up of schists with their highest point in Pelados at 598 meters.
Despite not having high altitude, this is a peculiar mountain range with rounded ridges, a large network of rivers, canals and streams and a very rugged terrain and much sought after by lovers of extreme sports.
The predominant plant species are cork oak, oak, strawberry tree, holm oak, and palm tree. Regarding the fauna, you will find in the Serra do Caldeirão, otters, deer, wild boars, eagles, storks and great diversity of frogs.
There are several species implemented by man in this mountain range such as the beautiful almond, carob, and orange trees (introduced by the Arabs).
In this mountain range are promoted numerous activities such as night walks, mountain biking circuits, rallies, and many others.
