The sixth edition of Porto PianoFest features international artists in various locations around the city

Another edition of Porto PianoFest, a festival that will run until the 8th of August, started on Sunday, with concerts in various spaces in the city. This year the event’s program has the novelty of including artistic residencies for musicians.

Come and listen to top pianists” is the invitation of the organization of Porto PianoFest, an event that every year brings together internationally renowned pianists in the city, to offer concerts and masterclasses. The program began on Sunday afternoon, the 1st, with the Grandes Mestres cycle. The stage at Casa da Música received the Russian Alexander Kobrin at 18:00.

Today, Monday, the program continues at 7:30 pm, with José Ramón Mendez playing at the Conservatory of Music in Porto. A show is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 pm as part of the Artes em Dialogue cycle: the piano by Mariel Mayz and the digital arts of Taylor Baldwin will intersect at the Rectory of the University of Porto.

In a decentralized program, Porto PianoFest travels to Vila Nova de Famalicão on the 4th, for a piano recital at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation (7:30 pm). The piano recitals of the Artist Residency cycle move to the World of Wine space, in Vila Nova de Gaia, between Thursday and Saturday, with two performances – 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.

The closing of the festival will take place at Palácio da Bolsa, next Sunday, the 8th, at 7:30 pm. Nuno Marques, artistic director of Porto PianoFest, will interpret pieces by Bach and Liszt.

In 2021, the event co-produced by the Porto Chamber has the novelty of introducing artistic residencies, a retreat designed for top musicians, so that they can prepare, study and present their work to the public.

Participation guarantees artists a solo recital in an auditorium in Porto, a study room with piano available at the Porto Conservatory, sessions with guest professors, or even a professional audiovisual recording of the solo concert.

Founded in 2016, Porto PianoFest is an international piano festival that brings renowned pianists and young musical talents to the city. For more information and tickets see the website.
