Silence 4 Inaugurates unique pop-up store at LX Factory

A sensory installation celebrates 30 years of one of the most iconic bands in Portuguese music

The band begins today, the first of four sold-out concerts at the Super Bock Arena, culminating at the MEO Arena in Lisbon on December 12th and 13th.

Silence 4 inaugurates a unique Pop-Up Store in Portugal tomorrow, November 14th, on Level One of LX Factory in Lisbon. Open to the public until December 14th, from 11 am to 7 pm, with free entry, the initiative marks another chapter in the celebrations of the band’s 30th anniversary, running parallel to the series of sold-out shows that mark the group’s unique return to national stages, with the first of four sold-out shows at the Super Bock Arena starting today and two dates at the MEO Arena on December 12th and 13th.

Silence 4 Pop-Up Store is a space of memory and emotion, where the public is invited to immerse themselves in the creative universe of Silence 4. Curated by David Fonseca and Think Out Loud, who are also responsible for the production of the space, and with the support of LX Factory and the Sr. Piano store, the project pays homage to the history and legacy of one of Portugal’s most beloved bands.

At the centre of the room is the main installation: a sensory recreation of the uninhabited house in Leiria, lent to the band at the beginning of their career to serve as a rehearsal room. Among crates, candles, canvases, and an old metal lantern, the improvised environment where it all began is reborn – a space of rudimentary creation and freedom, where four young people shaped the sound that would mark a generation.

Among the objects on display, the yellow cassette tape and the handmade cardboard box that Silence 4 took to record labels in 1996 stand out as one of the strongest symbols of the faith and audacity that marked the band’s beginning. This item, displayed in a central showcase, is one of the most emblematic pieces of the Pop-Up Store, a testament to the unwavering belief that led four young men from Leiria to transform Portuguese music in the late 1990s.

The space also houses original material, handwritten sheet music, unpublished photographs from the musicians’ personal collection, and the RTP documentaries, “Silence 4 — The Early Days”, directed by Filipe Cunha Monteiro, and “Silence 4 – Special”, produced by Paulo Resende, both shown on a 1990s television, in a dialogue between the past and the present.

Over the next few weeks, the space will host special events for fans and surprise performances, to be announced soon. In addition to its exhibition function, the Silence 4 Pop-Up Store also serves as the band’s official store, with merchandise and vinyl reissues of the sold-out albums Silence Becomes It (1998) and Only Pain Is Real (2000).

Silence 4 sold over 240,000 copies of their debut album, achieving six-times platinum status, and became one of the biggest phenomena in Portuguese music. They sold out coliseus, performed at the iconic Expo 98, played at festivals from north to south of Portugal, and also performed on international stages, taking English songs sung by Portuguese artists to new territories.

The year 2025 marks the band’s unique reunion, a celebration, not a return. After three sold-out nights in Leiria, a tour through the Azores and Madeira, and four consecutive dates at the Super Bock Arena starting today (November 13, 14, 15 and 16), two concerts follow at the MEO Arena on December 12 and 13, with the first date already sold out and the second on its way, culminating in New Year’s Eve in Albufeira.

In the cultural epicentre of Lisbon, LX Factory, and especially Level One, a space housing 31 areas dedicated to innovation and art (including workshops, galleries, photography studios, among others), now hosts this place of celebration, a refuge of memories and a reunion with history. Thirty years later, time has proven what was already felt in the first songs: Silence 4 was not just a band. They were a place where an entire generation met.
