SIMONE
Born in Salvador, Bahia, on Christmas Day 1949, Simone Bittencourt de Oliveira, known artistically only as Simone, is one of the greatest interpreters of all time in Brazilian music. Before becoming a singer, Simone was a promising basketball player, but her career took a new turn in 1972, when, encouraged by her friend and guitar teacher Elodi Barontini, she auditioned for the Odeon record label. Immediately approved, she released her debut album the following year, with a minimalist cover that featured only her name.
This was the first step towards a career full of successes, with hits such as “Jura Secreta”, “Começar de Novo”, “Cigarra”, “Tô Voltando”, “Iolanda”, “O Amanhã” among many others. Many of these themes were part of the soundtrack of several successful soap operas, which made him one of the most familiar voices among the Brazilian public, and also the Portuguese. The artist collaborated with big names in MPB, such as Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Ivan Lins, Sueli Costa, João Bosco and Martinho da Vila, among many others. She has also always been at the forefront of the fight for women’s rights.
In the 80s, her voice was the opening theme for the series “Malu Mulher”, a feminist landmark in Brazilian drama. In 2013, she reaffirmed this commitment on the album “É Melhor Ser”, composed only of songs by women such as Adriana Calcanhotto, Teresa Cristina and Rita Lee. Even after half a century of career, Simone continues to innovate. In 2022, he released “Da Gente”, an album that celebrates his northeastern roots and presents new MPB composers. As proof of this vitality, a new tour will begin in 2025, this time with a renewed repertoire, in addition to its greatest hits and other surprises prepared especially for fans.
With 31 studio albums, seven live albums and countless unforgettable performances in Brazil and abroad, Simone continues with her usual purpose: to move audiences, remaining faithful to the art of singing with passion and truth. And that is exactly what the Portuguese public can expect at the concert prepared for the Jardins do Marquês-Oeiras Valley, on July 5th.
TOQUINHO & CAMILA FAUSTINO
Special participation CAMANÉ
In this show, Toquinho, with his inseparable guitar, celebrates the songs that were part of his career, remembering the friends, composers and partners who helped create this success story, over more than 60 years. Alongside Toquinho, Camilla Faustino, one of the great names of the so-called New MPB, gives colour and beauty to this show, with her immense talent and musicality. “Coração de Mulher” is the title of a new song by Toquinho, which sings of a simple type of love that wanders around, permeating the feminine aura and “awakening the emotion of a girl, in a woman’s heart”.
Antonio Pecci Filho (Toquinho) was born in São Paulo, in the Bom Retiro neighbourhood, on July 6, 1946. He had classes with names such as Paulinho Nogueira (first and main chords), Isaías Sávio (classical guitar) and Léo Peracchi (orchestration). He recorded around 90 albums, composed more than 450 songs and performed around 15 thousand shows in Brazil and around the world. Over the years, his main partners included names such as Vinicius de Moraes, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben Jor, Paulinho da Viola, Francis Hime, Mutinho, Carlinhos Vergueiro, Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, Elifas Andreato and Paulo César Pinheiro.
Among his greatest influences are musicians such as Baden Powell, Edgard Gianullo and Oscar Castro Neves. Songs such as “Aquarela”, “Tarde em Itapuã”, “Que Maravilha”, “Regra Três”, “Escravo da Alegria”, “O Caderno”, “A Casa”, “O Pato”, “Na Tonga da Mironga”, “Samba de Orly”, “Carta ao Tom 74”, “Cotidiano n.º 2”, “Samba pra Vinicius” or “Carolina Carol Bela” mark a career spanning over 60 years. In the show prepared for this year’s edition of Jardins do Marquês – Oeiras Valley, Toquinho and Camila Faustino also have the special participation of Camané, one of the most emblematic voices of fado, who demonstrates, once again, all his versatility by joining Toquinho and Camilla Faustino in an unmissable moment.
