In Beethoven’s symphonies, we can identify idyllic and humorous environments as well as tragic or epic impulses. However, it all depends on the listener’s imagination. As a portrait, the music never aspired to compete with an oil painting, let alone a photograph. After all, how could an orchestra reproduce the image of a sunny afternoon beside a stream? Instead, Symphony No. 6 sets out to express, through sound, the feelings that rural settings awaken in us. This will be the setting for the world premiere of the first Piano Concerto composed by Tiago Derriça, commissioned by the CCB. This also awakens the desire to discover this composer’s concerting impetus.
Winner of the 1st Prize in the Beethoven Competition at the Royal College of Music, in London, and in the International Piano Competition of Nice Côte D’Azur, Marta Menezes has also won other prizes in international competitions in Portugal, Spain, and France. She performed in several countries in Europe, the United States, Cape Verde, and China. In 2015, she edited her first CD with works by Beethoven and Lopes-Graça, with the support of the GDA Foundation, which received the Global Music Award in the USA: Silver Medal – Outstanding Achievement in the categories of Classical Piano and Emerging Artist.
Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa is the cornerstone of a project that goes beyond the usual format of a classical orchestra, with the aim of bringing together artistic, pedagogical, and civic missions. It consists of 35 musicians from 10 different nationalities. He interprets a range of repertoire that extends from baroque to contemporary times, including opera and the great romantic symphonies.
