Musical composition by Pedro Lima, winner of the Best Classical/Classical Music Album at the 2025 Play Awards
On September 16, at 9:00 PM, the Maria Matos Theatre hosts the Lisbon premiere of Re:Opera – Beautiful is the Unknown Destination, a creation by the Braga Sinfonietta that intersects two seemingly distant musical universes: opera and fado.
With musical composition by Pedro Lima, winner of the Play Awards for Best Classical/Classical Music Album this year, Re:Opera proposes a conversation in two languages, creating bridges between musical universes – opera, as a classical genre, and, in this first edition, fado, as a musical style. Throughout the performance, we celebrate fado and what is considered the greatest human impulse—desire—while also meditating on determinism and free will, opening the door to fate, fortune, and passion through the word fado.
The orchestra is directed by Daniela Cruz, based on a libretto by Marta Pais Oliveira, with musical direction by Jan Wierzba and artistic curation by Artur Caldeira. The cast includes fado singer Tiago Correia and lyrical singers Raquel Mendes, Sofia Marafona, Rafaella Veiga, and Rui Vieira.
The Sinfonietta de Braga is a collective of young artists dedicated to programming, training, and musical creation. With a vision that celebrates the past and projects the future, the orchestra establishes itself as a space for innovation and artistic dialogue.
