The Dom Roberto Traditional Theater Meeting “É SÓ PALHETA”, which aims to contribute to publicize and dignify this form of popular theater, takes place from September 10th to 12th, at Casa da Marioneta de Sintra and Jardim da Anta, in Agualva, with free entry.
In the year that Teatro Dom Roberto was inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Portugal, Associação Cultural Valdevinos invited 9 Portuguese companies to represent, over the days of the event, the diversity of traditional repertoire of Teatro Dom Roberto and one to represent the traditional Brazilian theater, the Mamulengo.
Teatro Dom Roberto is a traditional Portuguese puppet theater repertoire, dating back to the 18th century. XVII and the reed is the “trick” that allows Dom Roberto to “speak”.
It was introduced in Portugal by Italian and French puppeteers, influenced by the Italian Commedia dell’Arte, adapting to the Portuguese cultural reality and following the European tradition of popular heroes with the character Dom Roberto who is capable of overcoming his own death.
All shows are open access and there will also be a workshop on building robertos for a shared time with the family, an exhibition alluding to the Dom Roberto Theater and conversations with representatives of the invited companies.
