Composed of nine tracks, BLACKOUT is the result of the intersection of visions between the author of THE NINJA SPIRIT and the DJ and producer from Bridgetown.
No major revelations were needed to glimpse what SleepyThePrince and DJ Dadda were foreshadowing with BLACKOUT. Now, in the light of day, this “blackout” could not be more clear-sighted: surpassing expectations, the result of the meeting between these two unique creatives brings us a refreshing album not only for the scenario in which it is set but also for the respective repertoires of each one.
Composed of nine songs, it is invariably two heads that BLACKOUT takes shape in that darkness that the duo embraced. Aesthetically confined to darkness, the product that they created together in a truly innovative work is, however, quite luminous. “MIRROR” and “DA ONE” — the project’s only preview singles — already pointed in this direction, but only their complete revelation now gives shape to this artistic body sculpted fundamentally by four hands.
More than just an aesthetic choice darkness is the backdrop for the message of self-improvement that characterizes SleepyThePrince’s entire discography. This time enhanced by the versatile and bold beats of DJ Dadda, it is with a particular lyrical bias that the prince who makes the helmet his crown navigates through stellar instrumentals, piggybacking on falling flows and shining melodies. In the most inventive ways, he shows us that it is precisely from the darkness that (his) light emerges — a motto that, ironically, he makes clear in the album’s opening track: “How can a guy who is out of touch live like this in the dark?”
