SmartPhotonics is the startup chosen to represent Portugal in the eAwards final

with 100,000 euros up for grabs

After analyzing dozens of applications and after identifying the 10 finalist projects, the NTT DATA Foundation elected SmartPhotonics as the Portuguese winner of this year’s edition of the eAwards, an initiative to promote technological entrepreneurship that has been in existence for over 20 years.

As a result, the start-up raises €10,000, gains access to an acceleration program and guarantees its presence in the global eAwards final.

The final will take place during Innovation Week in Madrid, in which 15 start-ups, winners of local editions from European and Latin American countries, will compete for a 100,000 euro prize. Everyone will have the opportunity to network with entrepreneurs, experts and investors, who will be at Innovation Week to network and share experiences.

Until the final, start-ups will accelerate their business models with NTT DATA, so that they can present themselves at their best on the day of the final decision. It should be remembered that Portugal has already seen two local projects win the global eAwards final and two others receive honourable mentions, which reveals the dynamism and quality of the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Candidate in the Security category, SmartPhotonics has an anti-counterfeiting service for packaging and labelling suppliers, which allows customers to guarantee the authenticity of their products, being a relevant solution for companies producing food, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products, among others. many others.

Maria Rute Ferreira André, Founder and CEO of SmartPhotonics, states “This award will allow us to begin realizing our vision of science-based innovation, being an inspiration to continue searching for technological solutions that promote a positive impact not only in society but in the world as a whole.”

Over the past 22 years, the NTT DATA Foundation has hosted and supported more than 9,000 projects around the world, receiving around 2,000 project applications annually, and looking for a new boost. This demonstrates the relevance of the award, but also the quality of the acceleration program and the networking platform that the eAwards offer.

Finalist projects for the eAwards Portugal 2023

The identification of the local winner of the eAwards is the culmination of a process that began in April 2023 and which included a phase of applications and selection of finalists. After analyzing dozens of projects, a jury made up of personalities from the world of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as university, scientific and business circles, identified 10 finalists, who competed for the final prize.   • IMFire: Intelligent Management of Wildfires – IMFire is a forest fire management support system, based on advanced AI methodologies, associated with the knowledge of forest fire experts.
  • Peeking Window – Peeking Window is a long-term, reliable AI technology that tracks irreversible eye diseases, enabling the global prevention of blindness.
  • Literary Highways – It is a pioneering system that allows authors to publish their books from anywhere, as well as sell them anywhere in the world.
  • SensePredict – SensePredict aims to develop a platform capable of predicting accurate and reproducible information about the sensory characteristics of drinks and foods. An evolution in relation to the subjective and/or low precision methods currently available.
  • SmartPhotonics – SmartPhotonics is an anti-counterfeiting service for packaging and label suppliers that allows customers to guarantee the authenticity of their products.
  • TakeCarbon – TakeCarbon is a decentralized platform designed to revolutionize the way carbon credits are tokenized, traded, financed and offset on a global scale, serving projects, end consumers and investors.
  • VIEXPAND AI – VIEXPAND AI is an Intelligent supervision solution for industrial units, which aims to improve working conditions and reduce waste of raw materials and energy.
