João Coração releases his first full-length album in 15 years on September 27th. Soberana is a Cuca Monga edition and already has several singles out here such as “Miúda”, “Amor e Verão” and the most recent “Heroína“.
Anyone who knows João Coração knows that he is a being of contradictions, a dreamer and a doer, comfortable with an intimacy that is disconcerting for many. He takes off his shoes to enter and invites whoever listens to him to do the same. His lyrics navigate the ups and downs of existence and the protagonists of his songs are in constant struggle: love on one side and fear on the other. Who wins this fight depends on who listens.
Soberana is the name of the album and the concept is common throughout the album, all the songs are about just one woman, the “sovereign” woman. First-person reflections on how far it is possible to believe and hope for great love. On the album, there is time to believe, doubt, despair and believe again.
The album features participation and work from a luxury cast: the dream band with Tony Love (Lena D’Água, Joana Espadinha, Benjamim, Margarida Campelo), Salvador Seabra (Capitão Fausto), Domingos Coimbra (Capitão Fausto), Jonatas Pires (Samuel Úria, Pontos Negros) and Velhote do Carmo. He has duets with Márcia and Marta Falcão. Mixing and mastering by João Bessa (Pedro Abrunhosa, Miguel Araújo, Deolinda and Ana Bacalhau), as well as Tiago de Sousa (Salvador Seabra, Camané, Deolinda, Maria João, Mário Laginha, Bernardo Sassetti, Amor Electro, Mafalda Veiga, Sérgio Godinho) and support for the recording of Manuel San Payo (Capitão Fausto).
Since the beginning of 2024, João Coração has been committed to showing new music. His big return to publishing came with “Miúda“, a single released in March, but since then he has surprised with videos and more new songs with “Não Sei Isso Bem”, “Amor e Verão” and “Heroína”.
The presentation shows for Soberana will soon be announced, as this album will come to life on stage and promises to reach the main cities in the country.
Who is João Coração?
In a past life, he made two albums that are as different as they are the same. Different because one is night and the other is day. Equal because both were recorded in an impetuous and raw way. João Coração both times invited his friends to a house full of instruments where they recorded their songs live, without prior rehearsals. It was as it should be and he found what he was looking for: truth, rawness, realism and all the rough edges to be smoothed out.
In 2024 he resurfaces with an album on Cuca Monga (Captain Fausto e Ganso’s record label) that testifies to his personal and creative evolution. As he delves into the depths of his existence, he explores new sonic spectrums. The songs appear like the previous ones, by storm, without warning, but the recording process is different, more considered and polished. For the first time in the studio, with arrangements designed a priori and performed by a dream band. Always faithful to his poetry, João Coração explores new, magnetic and intriguing atmospheres.
