SomSabor will bring together great names in music, literature and catering from the 11th in Belém
The Espaço Espelho D’Água brings to Lisbon this summer the SomSabor project with artists from different areas and styles. They will be intimate dinners with cultural activities in the area of music and literature, taking advantage of the unique architectural conditions of the space, in a special program.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he project stimulates sectors of the national economy that have suffered a strong negative impact on their activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, by offering, in safety and following the measures recommended by the DGS, high quality gastronomic and cultural experiences. The debut is on July 11 with Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa. The events continue until the end of September, always with new guests. Prices vary between 30 and 35 euros.
SomSabor will start on July 11th. The proposed calendar and schedule features curators, hosts and headliners with works made and awarded: figures such as the writer and social activist José Eduardo Agualusa; the singer and composer Paulo Flores; the innovator, businessman and gastronomic curator Paulo Amado; the musician and composer Gonçalo Sousa and Chef Rui Araújo (in front of the Mirror D’Água kitchen since 2015), who make up the front line of each night.
“With this cycle of debates, as part of the SomSabor project, we intend to bring together a group of Angolan writers, artists and thinkers, to debate the restart of the world – if in the beginning it was the verb, as the Bible assures, it is also the word that we will reinvent a new cycle”, explains Agualusa, who on the last Sunday of July will present the host of the August gatherings, appointed by himself.
“The purpose is to rekindle a segment of the Lisbon music scene, in intimate concerts with untold talents, where silence and music go hand in hand. In trio concerts, there is a challenge of a unique meeting, of musical sharing, in which musical dialogue and emotion are the protagonists”, says composer Gonçalo Sousa, host of Friday nights until the end of September.
For the opening of SomSabor, on July 11, another great name of music joins the project: the Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa, who will make a concert specially prepared for the occasion.
“I met Yamandu on one of the memorable nights at the Tejo Bar and since then I imagined that it would be fantastic to be able to present his work at Espelho D’Água”, points out Mário Almeida.
In gastronomy, there will be a series of dinners, with the aim of offering a contemporary interpretation and will conceptually link Portugal to the trips that the Portuguese made during the period of navigating the world.
A true discovery of flavors, carried out in partnership with the curator Paulo Amado and young and talented chefs from different regions of Portugal to develop new and creative recipes, prepared in four hands with the chef Rui Araújo. The results of this culinary immersion will be part of the menu of the house and will be shared with everyone who wants to taste these new dishes that connect us to other parts of the world.
“One of the reasons why I am in this project is the open perspective of what is a cultural and artistic phenomenon, where gastronomy has to have its place. My role is to reinforce that cuisine and gastronomy can also be the subject of debate and intervention in society. We will have emerging and consolidated cooks. We look for human diversity, regardless of origin. We look for cooks with a desire to advance the future. Even if they come to make a dish of their tradition or present their touch to tradition”, says Paulo Amado, who guarantees representatives of Portuguese cuisine outside Lisbon and chefs from other countries but who work in Portugal.
In the opening weekend, the invited chefs will be Cape Verdean Tiago de Lima Cruz and Brazilian Pedro Monteiro.
