Sonae Sierra creates “Mesa na Praça” in Braga Municipal Market

Sonae Sierra, a real estate company and a provider of integrated real estate services, created the “Mesa na Praça” concept for the Braga Municipal Market restaurant area, with the aim of giving a new life to the space and contributing to a new centrality in that area. from the historic city center.

Sonae Sierra invested in the decoration and equipment of the space. This project allowed the creation of around 60 direct jobs and more than 100 indirect ones.

The market’s food court will have 10 kiosks, and will provide temporary spaces to promote products and concepts from local merchants.

Among the offer will be, for example, the unprecedented concept Chakburger, which represents the debut of chef Chakall in Braga. This is a hamburger that bets on a 100% angus meat product, produced in Portugal, also offering vegetarian hamburgers. The Frigideiras da Praça space will offer the typical Braga delicacy, but also several other types of pastries.

Vinoteca à Braga, a wine&bistro, will combine an important wine cellar with wines from various parts of the country and the world with the city’s traditional food: every month, a local restaurant will be responsible for the snacks available to accompany the wine.

The “Mesa na Praça” space will also include the O Forno do Leitão do Zé kiosks, with roast suckling pig sandwiches; Siamo in Due, with typical Italian dishes, by Esposende Chef Vitor Peixoto; the Court of Beer; and the Moura Confectionery. There will also be a temporary space occupied by Pappa’Lab, a traditional, handcrafted and seasonally inspired ice cream parlor, run by the young woman from Braga, Marta Rito Bezerra, and whose products are produced with raw materials purchased in the market.

This concept is also distinguished by the fact that plastic is not used in customer service, as there is a recommendation to operators that at least 20% of their purchases be made to local merchants, and by the fact that it is a space dedicated to to be a stage and showcase for local artists.

The balance between innovation and tradition, as well as the dialogue with the community were also reflected in the requalification phase, both in the furniture and decoration options, and in the option, whenever possible, of local suppliers, namely Central Arquitetos, which developed the interior space concept, Moniz Dias, which executed the concept (furniture and signs), and Edigma, which installed the video system.
