Souto de Moura and António Adão da Fonseca distinguished

Architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and engineer António Adão da Fonseca were honoured with the “Excellence Award” at the 2018 Building Awards during the sector’s gala which took place on Tuesday evening at the Capitólio in Lisbon.

The 11th edition of the 2018 Building Awards awarded the best companies and works in the areas of Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Real Estate during this year.

The award of the Excellence Awards – to Eduardo Souto de Moura in the Architecture sector and to António Adão da Fonseca in the Engineering category – was the highlight of the awards ceremony, according to Construir, a promoter of the initiative.

Ricardo Batista, director of the publication, considered that this initiative “highlights the merit of the sector and the excellence of the professionals who make up the same”.

The ceremony began with the awarding of architecture awards, which distinguished the Valdemar Coutinho Arquitetos Cabinet, for the Viana do Atlântico Pavilion project in Viana do Castelo, as “Best Public Project”, and the Cabinet Less is More, for the Casa do Rio Hotel project, in Vila Nova de Foz Coa, as “Best Private Project”.

Still, in the area of architecture, Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos won the “Best Rehabilitation Project” award with Republic 37 in Lisbon, while Inês Lobo was awarded the “Best Atelier” award.

In the Engineering category, the Miradouro do Pilar 7, conceived by A2P in partnership with the Infrastructure of Portugal as “Best Public Project”, and the Nova SBE Campus, by GRID Arquitetura, as “Best Private Project”.

The re-qualification of the Field of Onions, in Lisbon, by the Focus Group, won the Inspection and Coordination Prize, the AFAPlan (project planning and management office) won the “Internationalization Prize”, while the Quadrante engineering company was considered “Best Cabinet.”

In the area of construction, Casais was considered the “Best Builder” and also received the “Internationalization Prize”, while Pestana Eco Village in Troia won the “Sustainability Prize”.

In the field of real estate, the “Best Office Building” belongs to the headquarters of Vieira de Almeida, the property of Fidelidade Property, while Mar Shopping Algarve, promoted by Ikea, was recognized as “Best Trade and Services Area”.

The “Best Residential Building” awarded the trophy to Reabilita for the work of Mouzinho da Silveira, 21, while the Pestana Group received the trophy “Best Tourist Resort” for the project of the Brazilian in Porto.

JLL was awarded “Best Consultant”.

The nominations for the 2018 Building Awards were made by the team of the newspaper Construir, promoter of the initiative, with the analysis of criteria that go through merit, technique, functionality and innovation, and the winners were the result of a vote made by the readers of the publication.
