Sporting lost with Ajax in Amsterdam (2-4)

Sporting left the Johan Cruijff Arena with a defeat against Ajax (2-4), in the match that ended the group stage, this Tuesday.

Presenting themselves in Amsterdam with seven new additions to the eleven, the lions were soon at a disadvantage on the scoreboard, the result of a penalty awarded after an indication by the VAR, for lack of Daniel Bragança on Haller. It was Ajax’s own striker who took the 11-metre kick, opening the scoring.

Sporting reacted, Nuno Santos equalized (22′), assisted by Tabata, but Antony returned to put the Dutch in front, taking advantage of a defensive error by Gonçalo Inácio (42′). The leonine disadvantage would increase thanks to the aim of David Neres (58′) and Berghuis (62′), the latter already after the entries of Pedro Gonçalves and Paulinho.

The Portuguese striker tried to react (shot at the figure at 64’), but it was Ajax who returned to the goal – Martínez shot at the post (68’). However, Sporting returned to the charge, Daniel Bragança threatened in the 76′, launched by Tabata, and two minutes later it was the Brazilian attacking midfielder successfully aiming for the goal: assisted by Esgaio, Tabata reduced, with a bomb at the edge of the area (78 ‘).
