Sporting strikes Benfica, avenge 1st round defeat and shorten distances

Play at the João Rocha Pavilion with excitement from start to finish. Incarnates lose for the first time in the season, but they still lead the championship.

Sporting received and won, this Saturday, Benfica (6-1), in a game related to the 19th round of the national championship. The Eagles even started the game, played at the João Rocha Pavillion, in front of the scoreboard, but Nuno Dias’s team managed to get around the game, even starting a thrashing, also avenging the result of the first round (4-1 in favour of Benfica ). The victory also allows the reduction of points between the two teams and ends with a cycle of 18 consecutive victories in the team championship guided by Joel Rocha.

The goals of the lions were scored by Dieguinho (8 ‘and 38’), Pedro Cary (9 ‘), Pany Varela (30’), Cavinato (35 ‘) and Guita (38’). From the side of the eagles, nothing was worth the attempt of André Coelho in the six minutes of play.

Note also for the double expulsion that occurred even before the interval of the match. Cardinal and Henmi pressed their heads together and saw the red card.

Sporting Lisbon now has 52 points and is second only to rivals Benfica, who scored 54. The Reds scored their first league defeat this season this afternoon.
