Among the African countries with the largest population to be included are Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique, but Spotify will also reach, for example, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
As in the countries where the platform is currently present, including Portugal, there will be two modalities: a free subscription and a paid one.
The worldwide music repository will be made available to newer countries, but the company has also announced its intention to expand the repertoire through collaboration with local artists.
The inclusion of new markets will allow the platform to access more than 1 billion people, as it almost doubles the number of countries and territories where it is present, which will exceed 170.
At the end of 2020, Spotify had 345 million active users, including 155 million with paid subscription, numbers that make it by far the world’s leading music platform.
