Sustainable practices highlighted on World Earth Day

On the day that World Earth Day is celebrated, it is important to note that in 2023, according to a report by WTTC and Trip.com Group, 69% of travellers chose their trips considering the sustainable characteristics of the proposals. In addition to the emerging necessary commitment to the planet, travellers are increasingly looking for this care when choosing the location of their trip/stay. Therefore, players in the hotel sector must incorporate these practices into the day-to-day operations of their hotels, offering sustainable travel options and also demonstrating a genuine commitment to environmental preservation and the well-being of local communities.
In this sense, for guests who are concerned about their ecological footprint, STAY HOTELS, as a complement to their stay, offers a free bicycle rental service – “JUST MOVE”. Thanks to the units’ privileged location, this extra is perfect for avoiding traffic, making it an excellent option for exploring the city in a sustainable, healthy and fun way.
The group adopts a broad set of measures daily, that is, environmental care, behavioural measures and technical measures, which also encourage guests to adopt more conscious behaviours. Examples of this are: lighting entirely in LED; reduced flow water consumption points; motion detectors for lighting control in service areas; cleaning of the room only when requested by the customer; monthly assessment of the recovery rate for waste produced by hotels; promoting good practices among teams and external partners; “JUST ECO” pin in all bedroom bathrooms; recycling bins in rooms and piles in reception and reducing the lighting period on facades, among others.
The hotel chain presents these and other measures to seek to support the planet, both environmentally and organizationally.
The result of this commitment was the distinction, this year, with the “We Share” and “We Care” Seals, in 5 of its units: STAY HOTEL FARO CENTRO, STAY HOTEL GUIMARÃES CENTRO, STAY HOTEL LISBOA CENTRO SALDANHA, STAY HOTEL PORTO CENTRO TRINDADE and STAY HOTEL TORRES VEDRAS.
The group also began the Biosphere certification process in all units to advance its commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles.
