Storm Factory names the artistic project that was born from the meeting between the musician Rui Maia, who we know from X-Wife or Mirror People, with Giulia Gallina, an Italian composer residing in Portugal and whom we know from projects like The Loafing Heroes.
After performing in 2021 with the single Corporeal, on March 17 they released their eponymous debut album, in which they built a distinct and unique sound environment, with contemplative, dreamlike and cinematic features, born from the piano’s relationship with environmental electronics and experimental.
The debut album came from the desire of the two musicians to develop a new aesthetic path born from the fusion of the neoclassical and minimalist pieces and compositions of Giulia Gallina, with the sound, environmental and electronic explorations of Rui Maia. The intention was to build something new, an aesthetic symbiosis that the two musicians had not yet explored.
From this meeting, an album was born where there are no barriers of style. This was the key to the dialogue between different universes, which intertwine here in the search for a soundscape where a sensory piano, inspired by travel and mythologies, finds a wide range of environmental, industrial and experimental sounds that Rui Maia sought to capture. Materials aesthetically resignified in a sound design made of different pieces that come together as if completing a puzzle, inspired by the sounds of cities, factories, people, water, trampled leaves and even the daily lives of a group of students from a school in Gafanha da Nazaré .
The result is 12 original and unique themes where sound summons the image, cinema and imagination. An album to imagine and dream, suggesting that, in search of different environments and sensations, all sounds can be turned into music.
