JULY 28 | TEATRO HELENA SÁ E COSTA, PORTO
OCTOBER 28 | CREARTE, CARCAVELOS
On the 28th of July, at 9.30 pm, the collective creator of instrumental progressive music, Sullen, will present the show “Caronte”, at Teatro Helena Sá e Costa, in Porto. On the 28th of October, it will be their turn to take to the stage at the CriArte space in Carcavelos.
In both concerts, the first part will be in charge of Dullmea.
The show on July 28th will be recorded and filmed for a later edition in live album format.
The collective is made up of André Ribeiro on guitar, Kevin Mota on bass, Marcelo Rúben Aires on drums, Pedro Favas on guitar, and Ricardo Pinto on keyboard.
Sullen are five personalities moved by the search for aesthetic innovation that explore the stylistic dimensions of Rock, Metal, Jazz, and Electronics in an exercise of experimentation and compositional fusion, improvisation, sound design, and the development of a sophisticated repertoire that is also the soundtrack of a vision of the world and its vicissitudes.
The new show “Caronte” is structured under the premise of a unique audiovisual experience – simultaneously performative and cinematographic – that encompasses different models of relationship with space and the public, seeking to foster a different and attractive experience for spectators. Fernando Maia’s light design and Rui Barreiros’ sound design are materialized in close connection with the compositional and performative processes of the five musicians who perform on stage, combining visions and operating sound and visual landscapes in which virtuosity and complexity merge with beauty and simplicity to give way to new sensory territories.
Ten years after its foundation and permeating changes in the team and in the artistic direction, the show “Caronte” embodies the recent restructuring and the conceptual paradigm that originated in 2023. of the Aqueronte river, the music, sound, and light of this show mirror this idea of limbo, of transition: an analogy of Sullen’s recent journey in an environment where his artistic practice often diverges from the expectations and modus operandi of cultural agents and the public of alternative music.
