The author of Música De Intervenção Divina presented his latest album in a special double concert, in front of a sold-out Aula Magna on both nights.
History repeats itself when it doesn’t want to be forgotten. And as if one night wasn’t enough to make history, ProfJam starred in two equally unforgettable nights for those who witnessed them at Aula Magna, on the 16th and 17th of February, both with sold-out crowds and a completely rapt audience. Come, see and give thanks from one side to the other — one for the tireless public that follows him more and more convinced of his incalculable value, the others surrendered to the “master” who with each appearance makes us believe that nothing is guaranteed, in the best of senses.
These appearances were glorious. A better entrance would be unimaginable, with the Aula Magna stage opening up to the dimension from which Mário Cotrim came. A head of flames in red and blue tones gave colour to the black figure that emerged from the scene to begin the great lesson. ProfJam made the pulpit his position from start to finish, without being tied to just one scenic station. And, to present Música De Intervenção Divina in its fullness, he made use of all the means he had available on stage — from the masterful armchair in which he sat, contemplating the event in real-time, to the open backstage that served as a portal to the entry and exit of ideas materialized on the spot.
MDID was the centre of this universe created and replicated by the respective author on Friday and Saturday nights, an album released on the fifth day of the fifth month of last year with 25 tracks — each of them in absolute evidence in this double show. Because each one deserved a unique performance, exclusively designed for the theme in question, many of them enhanced by the contributions of 2LO — a duo composed of Gonçalo Lemos and Leonardo Pinto, two of the main sound architects of Mário Cotrim’s fifth work — and the quartet of musicians led by conductor Tiago Matos.
ProfJam took us to heaven with “FEHÉR” and to hell with “CABARET”, pulled us into the depths of the ocean in “DAKAR” and set the room on fire with “AZTECA”. He was also a maestro, he danced without king or rock, he wore the electric guitar like a true rock star, and he gave the stage to his allies Wheelie GADS for an authentic freestyle show in a circle to the sound of “SACA LÁ”, he unfolded in multiple recordings for the varied moments that the show required, and he filled the stage with all the energy, all the charisma and all the dexterity that characterize him.
This is what sets him apart from the rest: at the forefront of experimentation, he never shies away from taking a leap of faith when his artistic belief speaks louder. The results, despite being a consequence — and not a reason for being — of his vision, have rewarded him to the extent of his dedication. Seeing a legion totally involved and unconditionally surrendered is clear proof of true, palpable success, which is not masked by numbers or dissipated by trends. History cannot be erased, and to do so you have to have the necessary courage. And there was no lack of courage for Mário Cotrim to go up and take over the Aula Magna stage twice, with a show idealized without impossibility, realized without fail and appreciated without reservation. In other words, as with any historical event, only those who were there will be aware of the importance of the moment. But what history was made, no one can take that away from you.
