Tavira welcomes Cremilda Medina on August 9
After being in Lagoa in July and selling out the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Cremilda Medina returns to the Algarve for another show.
Since the 6th of July, the “Summer in Tavira” program has been back and until the end of September, the city wants to be the centre of cultural dissemination, the Portuguese language, the arts and material, immaterial and environmental cultural heritage. Among other projects, this year it also includes the Celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution in its programming, with several shows on the theme.
Several artists have passed through Praça da República and it is on Friday, August 9th at 10pm that Cape Verdean Cremilda Medina takes to the stage.
After winning the “Morna of the Year” award at the CVMA Cabo Verde Music Awards, Cape Verde’s music awards Cremilda Medina, continues her NOVA AURORA tour, the name of her most recent record album and this time it’s Tavira’s turn to receive one of the today’s most renowned Cape Verdean traditional music artists.
Through her unmistakable voice, style and presence, Cremilda continues to bring Cape Verde’s culture to the world through music, especially Morna (Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO), the musical style with which she most identifies.
“… the Algarve has always welcomed me very well, I am very happy to sing for the first time in Tavira, I am sure it will be a night of great magic and lots of joy and good spirits where we will all sing, dance and make a beautiful party…” reveals Cremilda.
Their shows are a true journey that takes the public through the islands of morabeza in all its essence and where the rhythms of the mornas and coladeiras leave no one indifferent.
Cremilda was born and raised in Mindelo, São Vicente island in Cape Verde, with a striking personality, sweet voice and simple manner, she is committed to a musical career based on tradition, the appreciation and dissemination of morna, a musical style that best portrays the essence of people of Cape Verde.
In this show, Cremilda brings songs from her new album NOVA AURORA, as well as songs from her first album FOLCLORE that have marked her artistic trajectory.
