Olivia Rodrigo follows closely behind, with six nominations, also in the categories of Best Artist, Best Song, and Best Video. Nicki Minaj is another of the artists at the top of the most nominated for this year’s edition, in four categories, including Best Artist, Best Hip Hop, and Biggest Fans.
Already in the race for the Best Portuguese Artist category are Bispo – one of the most recognized Portuguese rappers -, Carolina Deslandes – undoubtedly the iconic voice of a generation – and Marisa Liz – who after all her success with Amor Electro She launched solo and confirmed herself as one of the most popular artists in the country.
The Weeknd, who won Best Video in 2016 with “Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)”, is competing for two awards: Best Concert and Best Collaboration (for “Creepin’” with Metro Boomin and 21 Savage).
Jung Kook, from BTS, has three nominations, marking his debut in the awards race as a solo artist. The singer is nominated for Best Song (with “Seven” feat. Latto), Best K-pop and Biggest Fans. Rapper Ice Spice is another newcomer, being nominated for New Artist, Best PUSH Artist (May 2023), and Best Collaboration (by Boy’s A Liar, pt. 2, by PinkPantheress), as well as FLO, who are nominated in the categories of New Artist, Best Group and Best PUSH Artist (June 2023). Metro Boomin, NewJeans, and Reneé Rapp have two nominations each.
For the first time, the MTV EMAs will award the Best Afrobeats Artists. Among them, singer Rema is nominated, who is also nominated in the Best Song and Best Collaboration categories, both for the single “Calm Down (feat. Selena Gomez)”.
Starting today, fans around the world will be able to vote for their favorite artists across multiple categories, including Best Song, Best Artist, Best Collaboration, and the new Best Afrobeats, at www.mtvema.com until October 31st. The same happens in the Best Portuguese Artist category, as it is now possible to vote for local artists nominated in 24 regions around the world.
The winners of Biggest Fans and Best Group will be decided later through votes on social media @MTVEMA. Finally, the winner of the Best Video category will be chosen by MTV.
The 2023 MTV EMAs will be broadcast live from Paris on Sunday, November 5th, at 6pm.
