Teatro do Bairro will present, on the 10th and 11th of February, at 9.30 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of the Cultural Forum of Seixal, the play ‘Fazer Um Alfabeto de Aniversários’, written by Gertrude Stein.
«In line with the plurality and cultural quality promoted in the Municipality of Seixal, the Teatro do Bairro company now welcomes you, with a play by a modernist author that counts with the translation of Luísa Costa Gomes and the staging of António Pires», refers the Mayor of Seixal, Paulo Silva. In the cast, the director has five actresses who, over the years, have integrated his shows, being his accomplices in the scenic language.
The synopsis states that the piece «is exactly what the title implies: an alphabet of birthdays, a list of people whose names begin with letters and whose birthday is on a certain day and what happens on that same day. Stories and more stories about the people and the lyrics and what it means to celebrate birthdays».
Written in 1940, a year after ‘The World Is Round’ was published, To Do: A Book of Alphabets and Birthdays “is a birthday book I wish I had read as a child,” said Gertrude Stein.
