Teatro Tivoli BBVA celebrates 100 years on 30 November with the Gulbenkian Orchestra
The BBVA Tivoli Theatre’s centenary is celebrated on 30 November, and to mark the occasion, the Theatre invited the Gulbenkian Orchestra to a commemorative concert, which will present works by Edvard Grieg, J.S. Bach, and Antonín Dvořák.
The Gulbenkian Orchestra is once again performing at the BBVA Tivoli Theatre for a new musical celebration between two of the main cultural institutions in the city of Lisbon and Portugal.
“This is a long-awaited return as the Gulbenkian Orchestra is one of the leading symphony orchestras in Portugal. It is a privilege for the BBVA Tivoli Theatre to welcome Gulbenkian, who knows the Theatre so well, on an important cultural date. For 100 years we have been open to culture and, over the last century, the Theatre has been the venue for prestigious performances that dignify culture, particularly classical music”, says Paulo Dias, Administrator of the BBVA Tivoli Theatre.
The Gulbenkian Chamber Orchestra performed for the first time at the Tivoli Theatre on 12 January 1963, under the direction of conductor Lamberto Baldi, in a program with works by Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach. Between 1957 and 1970, the Tivoli Theatre was one of the venues that hosted the Gulbenkian Music Festivals.
