Tivoli BBVA Theater hosts “Swan Lake” and “Nutcracker” in December

The Kiev Ballet Company returns to Lisbon at the beginning of December to present two of the most famous ballets of all time at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre: Swan Lake (6th and 8th December) and Nutcracker (7th December).

Ukrainian dancers return once again to the Tivoli BBVA Theater stage, after several sold-out sessions in 2023, to perform the eternal classics by composer Tchaikovsky, which are already part of the family program during the festive season. In December, the public will be treated to two stories, two ballets from the Kiev company, which stands out for maintaining the essence of ballet and for continuing to present the beauty of classical canons to the world while they continue to witness an endless war in their country. .

SWANS’S LAKE

“Swan Lake” is one of the most famous ballets in the world and expresses emotions through the beauty and delicacy of the dance. This classic and timeless work, more than a century old, highlights a very pertinent theme, the duality between good and evil, represented by the purity of the white swan (Odette) and the duplicity of Odile, black swan and daughter of the sorcerer. The ballet features choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Piotr Tchaikovsky.

NUTCRACKER

Based on a Christmas story by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, published in 1881 and choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov for the stage, this ballet tells the story of Clara who, at dusk, travels through the world of fantasy with the shaped nutcracker of a soldier doll, who transforms into a Prince. Together they fight against the evil Rat King and his followers, in a choreographic work that celebrates the beauty of fantasy and the joy of life. Tchaikovsky’s music is a striking element of this ballet which, with unforgettable melodies, evokes the joy and charm of Christmas.
