Teixeira de Freitas shows 300 works at an exhibition in Madrid

The exhibition ‘There will never be a door. You are in ‘will present in Madrid, from Monday, about 300 works of more than 190 artists from the Luiz Augusto Teixeira de Freitas Collection.

The exhibition, curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, includes works of installation, drawing, sculpture, painting, video and books by Portuguese and foreign artists such as Julião Sarmento, such as Cildo Meireles, Dahn Vo, Damián Ortega and Gordon Matta-Clark.

Integrated into the official program of the International Fair of Contemporary Art – ARCO Madrid 2019, which takes place from February 27 to March 3, the exhibition will be displayed at the Santander Foundation until June 9.

Jonathan Monk, Jorge Macchi, Julia Sarmento, Luisa Lambri, Nina Canell, Robert Kinmont, Sanja Ivekovic, Sofia Hultén, Tamar Guimarães, Thomas Ruff and Walid Raad are among the artists represented.

The show takes as its title the first verse of the poem ‘Labyrinth’ by the writer and essayist Jorge Luis Borges and aims to “reflect the wide variety of meanings that an art collection can have,” according to the organization.

Organized as a labyrinth, the exhibition has not, according to the organization, a beginning and an end, nor a specific theme, territory or time, positioning itself in infinite options.

The curator sought to put into dialogue the various installations, drawings, sculptures, paintings, videos and books of artists belonging to the collection of contemporary international art gathered by the lawyer and Brazilian collector Luiz Augusto Teixeira de Freitas.

The Teixeira de Freitas Collection is focused mainly on the last two decades and on emerging artists, also counting on a group of artists and historical works of the years 1960 and 1970 that serve as a historical matrix for the themes and concepts of the collection.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Monday at 13:00 (12:00 in Lisbon), in the Sala de Arte Santander – Fundación Banco Santander, in Madrid.
