Telma Monteiro finishes Judo World Championship in seventh place
Telma Monteiro spent this Tuesday real marathons to advance in the -57 kg category, having been eliminated by punishment in the recap meeting for the bronze medal. She ends up in seventh place automatically.
After having to go again to the golden point, which lasted almost six minutes (plus the 4 of the fight), against Serbia Marica Perisic, the Portuguese judoka accused her tiredness and received a third punishment, which automatically leads to the loss of the fight. Before, she had already had a match of more than 10 minutes against Japanese Momo Tamaoki.
Earlier, Wilsa Gomes, also at -57kg, was eliminated in the opening fight, after losing to the Russian Anastasiia Konkina. João Fernando (-73kg) was eliminated in the first fight against Victor Scortov, from the Emirates.
The fights return on Wednesday with athletes from the -63 kg female and -81 kg male categories. Anri Egutidze (-81 kg) is the only Portuguese representative on this day, debuting in the first round against Montenegrin Nebojsa Gardasevic (110th).
