Having already announced the EP in homage to António Variações, Telmo Pires is revealing the themes that will be part of this new album that he composed with producer Tiago Machado, and which is scheduled for release in March.
After the premiere of the first single “Voz-Amália-de-Nós”, released on December 3, 2024, marking the birth date of António Variações, the second single “O corpo é que paga” will be released on January 17.
This song, originally released on the album Anjo da Guarda in 1983, “O corpo é que paga”, became one of the most iconic, unforgettable and well-known songs by António Variações. Telmo Pires takes us to an almost traditional environment and, due to its connection with fado, the sound of José Manuel Neto’s Portuguese guitar in “O corpo é que paga” has a firm footing in the singer’s characteristic fado environment. A contemporary and lively fado that, in partnership with Tiago Machado, seems to have been tailor-made for Telmo Pires, showing once again the timelessness of António Variações’ art, which speaks to us of our vices, fears and pleasures.
A hymn to life, since he was very short, but whose memory will last forever, being one of the most remarkable names in the history of national music, and of whom Telmo Pires was always a fan.
A very significant tribute to Telmo Pires, who with his personal touch honors this memory.
