After the first tracks “Introdução” and “Campo Dourado,” the Tempo Livre project—a creative collaboration between Pedro Tavares (employee) and Luís Neto—presents Terra Nova, its debut album, now available on all digital platforms. Accompanying the release is the new single, “Ruminação.”
Described as a song with an unusual structure and introspective, repetitive lyrics, “Ruminação” fuses progressive rock, folk, and ambient music with a pop touch. Like the album it features, it is an emotionally dense piece open to experimentation, where form and repetition create a space for internal reflection.
Terra Nova is born from a collaborative musical exploration between two musicians with distinct but complementary backgrounds. Pedro Tavares, through his project “empleado,” has dedicated himself to exploring everyday life as a mosaic of sensations, through sound collages that connect memory and imagination. His compositions don’t follow a linear narrative, but create intimate atmospheres where the real and the dreamlike intersect. Luís Neto, meanwhile, is a musician, producer, and sound engineer with experience spanning jazz fusion, progressive metal, and experimental music. Co-founder of the Turva label and member of the electronic duo AG.R97, Neto has collaborated with projects such as Pedro Ricardo, Shell From Oceanic, and Redoma, bringing a precise and detailed rhythmic approach to the production and mixing process.

The album is the result of recording sessions with acoustic instruments such as drums, percussion, kemenche, duduk, santur, and guitar, initially creating an ambient atmosphere with folk influences. These soundscapes were then layered with autotune-processed vocals, expansive drums, 12-string guitar, nyckelharpa, and bass, resulting in a universe where progressive rock, experimental music, and electronics converge.
Throughout the nine tracks that make up Terra Nova, introspective and poetic lyrics stand out, such as “Ruminação” and “Em Apneia,” which address themes of memory, fear, and transformation. Musically, the album alternates between moments of suspense and rhythmic explosions, in a deliberate fusion of traditional and modern instruments.
The album was produced by Pedro Tavares and Luís Neto, and features mastering by Carlos Nascimento (Qualia Audio Lab) with collaborations by Pedro Pimentel, Nuno Craveiro, and Luís Correia. The visual design was by AALTAR SYSTEM, and the photography is by Elisa Azevedo.
Published by turva under catalog number TRV007, Terra Nova is a work that defies categories and proposes a deep listening experience—a dialogue between the ethereal and the visceral, where each layer is a revelation.
Terra Nova will be presented live on October 16th at Passos Manuel, Porto, and on October 18th at Casa Capitão, Lisbon.
The album Terra Nova and the single “Ruminação” are now available on all digital platforms.
