Teresa Bonvalot goes directly to the quarter-finals in Ericeira
Teresa Bonvalot, 20, who recently became national champion for the third time, took first place in the fourth heat of the first round of this special World Surf League (WSL) event, with a score of 11.46 points (out of 20 possible), with the Spanish Nádia Erostarbe in the second position (10.77) and with the Portuguese Francisca Veselko in the third position (7.44).
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s for the other Portuguese, Carolina Mendes (12.07) and Camila Cardoso (5.67) were in the second and third positions, respectively, in the second heat, which was won by the French Johanne Defay (13.27), athlete who is part of the world elite.
In the third heat, won by the Frenchwoman Pauline Ado, with 15 points, the highest note of the morning among the ladies, the Portuguese Yolanda Hopkins (9.93), and Mafalda Lopes (9, 07) occupied the following positions.
In the first heat of round one, which did not have Portuguese athletes, it was the Israeli Anat Lelior who won (13.24), followed by the German Rachel Presti (11.67) and the Spanish Ariane Ochoa (6.27) ).
The athletes who won the first round are already qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, while the others will compete in the elimination round to try to move forward in the competition.
The MEO Euro Cup Surfing, which follows a similar event held last week in France, does not score for any competition and its main objective is to provide athletes with competitive moments after the WSL 2020 circuits were canceled because of of the covid-19 pandemic.
