Teresa Huertas wins Franca de Xira Biennial of Photography Award

The winner of this edition, which opened on April 16, will receive a prize of 5,000 euros from the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, organizer of the event launched 32 years ago.

The jury also awarded Humberto Brito an honorable mention for the work “Estrada e Fantasmas”, according to the jury’s decision.

Teresa Huertas, who lives and works in Lisbon, develops activity in the areas of photography and installation, has a postgraduate degree in Multimedia Art – Photography, from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon, a master’s student at the same institution, and a degree in Germanic Philology.

This edition of the Vila Franca de Xira Photography Biennial registered 90 applications, 34 more than those registered in BF18.

The selection made by the selection jury resulted in a collective exhibition with works by the artists Ana Janeiro, Beatriz Banha, Daniela Ângelo, Elisa Azevedo, Frederico Brízida, Hugo de Almeida Pinho, Humberto Brito, Teresa Huertas and Stefano Martini.

The nominating jury was formed by a board of trustees composed of Bruno Humberto, Catarina Botelho, Filipa Valladares and Paulo Mendes.
