Deadline for entries for the Fernando Namora Literary Prize ends on May 31st

The deadline for submission of works nominated for the 28th edition of the Fernando Namora Literary Prize expires on May 31st.

Established by Estoril Sol in 1988, this prestigious prize has a monetary value of 15 thousand euros. It is a major reference among similar initiatives in the national literary scene. The jury will be chaired by Guilherme D`Oliveira Martins.

The Fernando Namora Literary Prize is intended to award a work of fiction (novel or short story) by a Portuguese author, published in 2024, provided that the writer has not been awarded in the three previous editions.

With an annual frequency, the Fernando Namora Literary Prize consolidates a prestigious tradition in literary circles. It is worth remembering that Hugo Gonçalves, with his novel “Revolução”, was the winner last year.

In the minutes, the jury said: “With a direct, fluid and communicative style and with a language that aligns itself with the expression of the time and its social actors, “Revolution” is a book that imposes itself literarily, thanks to the way it connects loose ends of recent Portuguese history, always maintaining, however, the narrative design of contradictory characters, heroic or tragic, strong or weak, and whose profiles challenge and comment on the current readers of the novel and their respective ideological positions”.

The Jury, in addition to Guilherme D`Oliveira Martins, who presides, representing the CNC – National Center of Culture, also includes José Manuel Mendes, for the Portuguese Association of Writers, Manuel Frias Martins, for the Portuguese Association of Literary Critics, Maria Carlos Gil Loureiro, for the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries, Ana Paula Laborinho, Liberto Cruz and José Carlos de Vasconcelos, invited individually, and also Dinis de Abreu, representing Estoril Sol.
