Solidarity highlighted in this edition with Pinheiro Bombeiro, Portuguese Red Cross, Animal Protection Association of Torres Vedras, Vale de Acór and Lar Jorbálan.
From November 29 to December 2, the Campo Pequeno Arena will host a very special Christmas.
With an extensive selection of 100% national projects and products, this year’s edition will also include previously unreleased participations such as the Pinheiro Bombeiro project to help the Volunteer Firefighters or the Torres Vedras Animal Protection Association, which currently houses around 450 animals and aid in its adoption process.
The eighth edition of the Christmas Market, which expects about 20 thousand visitors, counts on more than 140 exhibitors, who will present author’s articles and design pieces exclusively of Portuguese origin, mainly inspired by the arts and traditional crafts, as well as in trends.
Books, design pieces, eco, fashion, ceramics, jewellery, decorative items, toys, plastic arts, gourmet and bioproducts, chocolate, are some of the options that will be available.
But the main novelty of the Christmas Market in 2018 will be the space dedicated to helping, with IPSSs and initiatives of solidarity. The social solidarity institutions find in this space the opportunity to present themselves to the visiting public by sensitizing them to their causes.
The #PinheiroBombeiro project consists of taking pines to be slaughtered, such as Christmas trees. In the end, the pine trees are returned and transformed into biomass. In this way, efficient, intelligent and sustainable use of pine trees is being promoted, which had to be slaughtered and simultaneously raising funds to buy material for the Volunteer Firefighters.
The Portuguese Red Cross will be present in the market with a health screening area, in a fundraising activity to contribute to the social activities of the Lisbon delegation.
But the four-legged animals were not forgotten: the Torres Vedras Animal Protection Association is present at this 8th edition of the Christmas Market with an awareness-raising action for their work: They care, treat, feed, sterilize and forward animals ( dogs and cats) for adoption, through a careful selection of adopters. In this market is appealed to the donation of basic necessities, since the organization does not benefit from any public support.
At the same time, this Market will count on the presence of the Acór Valley, with its innovative Craft Social Ice-creams – Fratellini and Rustic Firewood Bread, and the Jorbálan Home, which temporarily welcomes young women and their children in situations of social vulnerability, which will have on sale products made by your community.
The Christmas Market also organizes a program of activities “The Market Workshops” for kids and adults: recipes for Christmas desserts, the construction of a mini ceramic nativity scene, block printing technique with handmade stamps and other materials, workshop of Weaving Mother Sheep with traditional techniques of wool handling, are some of the proposals available.
“It is extremely gratifying for us to be able to rely on this group of institutions in the Christmas Market because the spirit of Christmas also implies helping to help,” says Luciana Megre, head of the organization.
“The program of activities allows us to recreate and teach traditional techniques of weaving and ceramics or stamping and thus engaging the public in a world of manual work that is often forgotten and ends up being lost,” concludes Anabela Oliveira, co-organizer of the event.
From Thursday to Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., visitors will not only find differentiated gifts at attractive prices but also contribute to the viability of small businesses and help people and animals.
