The Academic back in Portugal
Hard Club, Porto and Capitólio in Lisbon on 13 and 14 May
The Academic will be back in Portugal for two concerts in Porto (Hard Club) and Lisbon (Capitólio), on 13 and 14 May next year.
Tickets for these two shows will be available from 9.00 on Friday, December 6, at houseoffun.pt, ticketline.pt and usual venues.
In the ever-changing music scene, The Academic has emerged as a force to be recognized. After their debut album, ‘Tales From The Backseat’, skyrocketed to the top of the charts in 2018, the Irish quartet embarked on a global journey touring the UK, Europe and North America.
Revered for their live shows, their contagious fusion of floating guitar hooks and pungent lyrics about teenage adventures reverberated far beyond the Irish countryside where they grew up.
In 2023, The Academic not only maintained its relevance and strength but also reached new heights. The group’s second album, “Sitting Pretty”, not only marks a sound evolution as it pushed the band into a new phase. Album and a global fan base. As if that were not enough, the year unfolded in a whirlwind of transatlantic concerts, playing on stages in the USA, Europe and Southeast Asia.
Reflecting on the collective’s journey, vocalist Craig Fitzgerald highlights the band’s growth, stating: “We’re different people now but that’s natural. We are still as ambitious as we have ever been, and we feel that our best work is yet to come. We are very excited for what is coming in 2024″.
The Academic’s dedication to authenticity and genuine expression remains unwavering. Inspired by names like The Kinks, Talking Heads and The Velvet Underground, their music is sincere and has “the heart at the foot of the mouth”, a characteristic with which many fans identify, turning the lyrics of songs into tattoos and use those same songs as soundtracks for crucial moments in life.
As they break new ground with “Sitting Pretty” outside of Ireland, The Academic are authentic and confidently navigate their path in a music scene where comparison is inevitable. ” We’re willing to change, we’re willing to evolve but we also know exactly who we are”, says bassist Stephen Murtagh. His music, characterized by contagious choirs and raw sincerity, is a testimony of his self-sufficiency and self-confidence.
For a band that started learning Kings Of Leon covers in a local pub in 2013, the rise of The Academic was nothing short of meteoric. With ‘Sitting Pretty’, the group invites the public to join them in a visceral journey through the chaos of the existence of the 20s and so young, offering solace to those who struggle with self-esteem and identity. While they look forward to conquering new territories, The Academic proves that their hunger for musical exploration burns stronger than ever, igniting a fire that promises to take them to unknown heights.
