The second day of BB Blues Fest in Baixa da Banheira with The Smokestackers and The Sugartown Duo

Last weekend, the BB Blues Festival was held in Baixa da Banheira, with names like Fast Eddie Nelson, The Smokestackers, The Legendary Tigerman, João Cabrita, Peter Storm & The Blues Society, and much more.

In an edition marked and adapted to the moment that the country and the world live, due to the pandemic of COVID-19, BB Blues Fest took place from October 8 to 11 in the village of Baixa da Banheira with the best names of international Blues.

After the postponement of the 9th edition of BB Blues Fest, initially scheduled for early June, and a period of forced interregnum, the festival brought us back to the blues roots at the José Manuel Figueiredo Cultural Forum and free outdoor concerts, in an adapted format.

On Friday, the 9th, the BB Blues Fest stage was taken outside with two incredible concerts by The Smokestackers and The Sugartown Duo.

The Sugartown Duo were the first to take the stage and took us on a journey throughout the 20th century, going through the evolution of these sounds that have to do with the blues, interpreting songs by Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Etta James, Memphis Minnie, Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers, among others, and where they also sang original songs that will be part of the album they are currently recording.

Thank you very much to everyone, to the organization, to the technical team, to everyone present, it’s a pleasure to play for people who like and worship music just like us, and it means a lot to us that you are here to listen to us even with the current situation“, thanked the band at the end of the concert.

Kristina Zurauskaite and João Pedro Lobo formed this duo, that has no rules, reflecting the sweet life of Sugartown – a magical place with no troubles, rain, materialism or problems, sung about by Nancy Sinatra. Sugartown Duo was born from love – love for music, love for work, lifestyle, and each other. It is a very personal and honest project with a goal to make others feel the music.

The Smokestackers arise from a conversation in a studio and from a common taste – the Blues. Always with its roots on the scene, the duo formed by João Belchior and Diogo Mão de Ferro, represent the image and feel of the Blues, in a repertoire that encompasses traditional and more current songs.

In an acoustic format, with slide guitar notes and a harmonica, and voices that sing these lyrics so often passed down from generation to generation.

At BB Blues Fest this duo presented their debut album, released digitally earlier this year, entitled “Road Songs“, which reflects the experiences they had on the road, the places they went through, the trips they took, the concerts they had done, not only in Portugal but also in other places like the United States.

BB Blues Fest is the result of a partnership between the BB Blues Portugal Association, the Moita City Council, and the Union of Parishes of Baixa da Banheira and Vale da Amoreira.
