About Simon & Garfunkel
mon & Garfunkel was an American folk rock duo formed by singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. They were one of the most successful musical groups of the 1960s and their biggest hits – including “The Sound of Silence” (1965), “Mrs. Robinson” (1968) and “Bridge over Troubled Water” (1970) – are still widely popular today.
Simon & Garfunkel was formed in 1957 when they were both students at Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York. They released their debut album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. in 1964, but it was not a commercial success. However, their second album, Sounds of Silence, released in 1966, was a success, partly thanks to the success of the title track, which had been re-recorded with electric instruments.
The duo’s third album, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, was released in 1966 and was another commercial success. It included the hit singles “Homeward Bound” and “The Boxer”.
Simon & Garfunkel’s fourth album, Bookends, was released in 1968 and was their most critically acclaimed album. It was also a commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album included the hit singles “Mrs. Robinson” and “America”.
The duo’s last album, Bridge over Troubled Water, was released in 1970 and was an even bigger commercial success than Bookends. It reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. The album also included the hit singles “Bridge over Troubled Water” and “The Boxer”.
Simon & Garfunkel split in 1970 after a tumultuous tour. They got together again in 1981 for a concert in Central Park, which was attended by more than 500,000 people. They’ve released some new music together since then, but have never reunited for a full tour.
Simon & Garfunkel are considered one of the greatest musical duos of all time, known for their harmonies and poetic lyrics, their songs have been covered by countless artists and continue to be popular to this day.
