The caretos are an enigmatic figures of the transmontano northeast. Considered to be “devils”, the mysterious Caretos (the idea is even unable to recognize who is behind the mask) take to the streets, with their colorful costumes, made of blankets, to cheer up the winter and rattle the girls. It is also the celebration of late winter and early spring.
Colors that are also in your clothes: they are fringed quilts (made in looms) with threads of rattles at the waist and bells. That is, it is a warm suit – and suitable for the transmontane winter – and very heavy. They also usually carry a long wooden stick or cane, which helps in play.
