The film is directed by Trey Edward Shults and stars The Weeknd himself, alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
The multi-award-winning artist The Weeknd, stage name Abel Tesfaye, is about to expand his creative universe to cinema with the release of the film “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” a psychological thriller that will have worldwide distribution by Lionsgate. Scheduled for release in 2025, the film also marks The Weeknd’s debut as the lead actor in a feature film, alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
Directed and co-written by Trey Edward Shults, known for the acclaimed films “Waves” and “It Comes at Night,” “Hurry Up Tomorrow” presents itself as an ambitious project that unites music and cinema. The film is a direct extension of The Weeknd’s upcoming album, which shares the same title and concludes the artist’s musical trilogy, starting with the albums After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). With a soundtrack composed by The Weeknd himself and Daniel Lopatin (known for his work in the film “Uncut Gems” and for his musical project Oneohtrix Point Never), the film promises a dive into existential and self-critical themes, characteristic of Tesfaye’s work.
“Abel is a visionary whose art transcends the limits of any media,” says Adam Fogelson, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “With ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow,’ he expands his musical universe to the big screen, offering a unique and innovative cinematic experience for his fans around the world.”
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is produced by Manic Phase, The Weeknd’s production company, and by Reza Fahim, with executive production by Ortega, Shults, Michael Rapino, Ryan Kroft, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, and Harrison Huffman. The production design and costumes are by Elliott Hostetter and Erin Benach, while the cinematography is handled by Chayse Irvin, a longtime collaborator of Shults.
With over 75 million records sold and a successful career that includes four Grammy Awards, The Weeknd is widely recognized as one of the greatest contemporary artists. This transition to cinema with “Hurry Up Tomorrow” reaffirms his ability to innovate and surprise the audience by mixing the intensity of his music with visual storytelling, promising a unique and engaging experience.
Fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the release of the album and the film, which together conclude the trilogy and mark a new and challenging chapter in the artist’s career.
