NOS Alive hosts The Wombats on July 11, taking to the NOS Stage alongside acts like girl in red, Justice, and Anyma. The English band will be presenting their latest album, Oh! The Ocean, in a very special show at Passeio Marítimo de Algés.
Oh! The Ocean pulses with social anxiety, internal conflicts, and the challenges of life in Los Angeles, where Murph resides, making it the English band’s most daring and sonically sophisticated album. Once again, they offer an escape from the everyday with meaningful compositions in a time of uncertainty—all wrapped in the band’s playful and seemingly lighthearted facade. Oh! The Ocean signals a new era for the British trio, moving away from the synthetic sounds of previous albums to embrace a more organic and human approach.
In July 2024, they took 50 new tracks to a studio in Echo Park, LA, where, for six weeks, they recorded with acclaimed producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Wallows, Death Cab for Cutie), rejecting the use of artificial intelligence-based techniques in favour of a more authentic sound.
Never losing their identity, The Wombats explore new sonic territories—from shimmering tech rock to sci-fi pop, from futuristic fuzz rock to bluesy rock ‘n’ roll, with touches of disco and hip-hop influences.
