There are four books by Portuguese authors with the label ‘White Ravens’

Four books, written or illustrated by Portuguese, among them José Saramago’s ‘The Lizard’, are on the list of the best literature for children and young people of 2018, from the International Youth Library.

Every year, the library brings together a selection of the best books for children and youth published in several countries and languages, and prepares an international publication catalog, entitled White Ravens, which will be shown at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany.

In the most recent list released by the organization, which contains more than 200 titles in 38 languages, are the books ‘The War’, by José Jorge Letria and André Letria (Logical Duck), and ‘The Yellow Ball’ by Daniel Fehr, illustrated by Bernardo P. Carvalho (Planeta Tangerina).

Also selected were ‘The Lizard’, a 1970s tale by José Saramago that was recently edited with woodcuts by the Brazilian author J. Borges (Porto Editora), and ‘Sonia Delaunay. A life of color ‘, a book by Cara Manes, with the image of the Portuguese illustrator Fatinha Ramos, edited by the Museum of Modern Art of New York.

The books selected for the White Ravens 2018 will be exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which starts on Wednesday in Germany.

Founded in 1949, the International Youth Library is considered to be the largest dedicated exclusively to children’s and young people’s literature, with nearly 600,000 titles in 130 languages ​​and languages ​​covering four centuries of history.
