Three Portuguese dancers selected for the Lausanne 2020 Prix
Portuguese dancers Diogo Bettencourt, Pedro Silveira, and Catarina Pires will compete in the 48th edition of the international Prix de Lausanne ballet competition, which will take place in February 2020 in Switzerland.
Among the 84 dancers selected for the 48th edition are three Portuguese: Diogo Bettencourt of the DNA N’Arts School in Coimbra, Pedro Silveira of the Artistic Dance School of the National Conservatory in Lisbon and Catarina Pires da Tanz Akamedie Zürich in Zurich, Switzerland, according to information available on the official competition website.
The 84 selected dancers, 51 of which girls and 33 boys, are from 27 countries.
Among the selected are also six Brazilian dancers: Gabriel Barbosa, from the Isabel Gusman Ballet School, Rui César Cruz, from the Ilha Cultural Dance Group, Rachel Quintão from the ATM Cultural Dance Center, and Ana Luísa Negrão, João Vitor Santana and Vitor Augusto, do Itego in Arts Basileu France, all educational establishments in Brazil.
The 48th edition of the Prix Lausanne will take place from 2 to 9 February in Montreux, Switzerland. The finals are scheduled for February 8th.
The Prix de Lausanne, one of the most important dance awards, was created in 1973 and is run by the Fondation en Faveur de l’Art Chorégraphique.
In the 47th edition, which took place in February of this year, the Portuguese Alexandre Joaquim, a student of the Rosella Hightower International Dance Center in Marseille, France, was one of eight winners.
At 18, Alexandre Joaquim won the Coromandel Foundation award.
In addition to Alexandre Joaquim had passed to the final stage of the award another Portuguese dancer: António Ferreira, 15, student of the National Conservatory Dance School.
