After the success of “Beira Mar”, a project that toured European stages with interpretations by names such as Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, and Florbela Espanca, Tiago Nacarato and Cainã Cavalcante take another step in their artistic partnership with the release of “Grão”, their first original composition.
The single is now available on all digital platforms.
“Grão” is born from the fusion of personal experience and creative urgency. Inspired by a period of silence in a long-distance relationship, Tiago Nacarato transformed absence into art, in a sensitive reflection on the conversations that persist despite everything. According to the musician, the song arose from a “need, as happens most of the time”, after days of silence imposed by a spiritual retreat of the person with whom he was in a relationship. “I felt the need to materialise all these thoughts and feelings in the form of a song”, shares the artist.
During rehearsals for the project’s first European tour in March 2025, Cainã heard the first chords of “Grão” and immediately felt the potential of the composition. The arrangement was developed together, and the song ended the shows with great repercussion. Even though it had not been released, the chorus was sung in unison by the audience, a clear sign of the strength and connection of the work with the public.
Produced by Tiago Nacarato and Cainã Cavalcante, the track traverses the sound universes of Brazil, Portugal and Africa, uniting tradition and contemporaneity. “The striking presence of the Brazilian guitar full of groove and energy, together with Tiago’s beautiful voice surfing the song with great taste”, was, according to Cainã, decisive in building the identity of the song. To complete the sound core, the musician invited the percussionist from Bahia, Kainã do Jêjê, who “brilliantly brought even more life to the song”.
Recorded between tour commitments at Groove Wood Estúdio (Porto), “Grão” features Cristiana Silva on backing vocals and clapping. The mixing was done by Luis Paulo Serafim, winner of multiple Latin Grammys, and the mastering was done by Brendan Duffey, a Grammy Award-winning sound engineer. The visual release was developed in partnership with Portuguese producer AV82 and Brazilian producer UORD, with performance by artist Ana Paula Vulcão.
“Grão” is the first original fruit of the Beira Mar project and signals the end of this project for the duo. Now, not only as performers, but as composers of their language.
