Composer and pianist Tiago Sousa announces a new album for 2024 as well as a series of concerts across the country.
January 2024 will be the occasion for the release of the third volume of the “Organic Music Tapes” series. The album that will be released by Sucata Tapes opens with a piece for pipe organ, which recently premiered at OUT.FEST – Barreiro International Exploratory Music Festival.
Since the beginning of this series of organic music cassettes, we have witnessed a transformation in the pianistic language of the Portuguese musician, contaminated by the role of the electric organ, based on composition techniques inaugurated by the American minimalism of Terry Riley, Steve Reich or Philip Glass.
Compositions in a fluid state, form nebulas of sounds with indeterminate contours. Music that develops in a gradual process, where the repetition and variation of small motifs induce subtle perceptions and psycho-acoustic effects, which, due to the spontaneous and natural way in which they cadence, appear as if woven by the very fabric of life – the same thing that gives it forms rivers, the veins of wood, the fibre in muscles or the marks on a Jade stone.
Tiago Sousa (1983), composer, pianist and organist, aroused the attention and fascination of the music-loving public with his musical discourse articulated between contemporary composition and minimalism in albums such as Insónia (2009), Um Piano nas Barricadas (2016), Oh Sweet Solitude (2020) or Ripples on the Surface (2022).
