– Triumph earns lead in Junior Tour 2025 rankings;
– Mário Leopoldo and Maria Dias were the defeated finalists in Leça da Palmeira;
– The next stage will take place in São Jacinto, Aveiro, on June 21st and 22nd.
Tiago Stock and Maria Salgado won this Sunday at Projunior Porto & Matosinhos, the second stage of Junior Tour 2025, a circuit that defines the national U-20 champions.
The event, held this weekend in the waves of Leça da Palmeira, had good conditions, especially on the final day, with Stock and Salgado being crowned winners and taking the lead in their respective rankings.
After a first day of great action, the event resumed on Sunday morning, with the best national juniors putting on a show in the northern waves, until the final stages of the second of four stages of the Junior Tour were defined. On the men’s side, Mário Leopoldo emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the event and confirmed this status by eliminating João Roque Pinho in the first semifinal, while Tiago Stock beat Tiago Guerra to secure the other spot in the final.

After a difficult first day, in which he managed to advance round after round but without winning, Tiago Stock ended up gaining momentum in the final stretch of the championship and in the grand final he scored 13.15 points to seal a solid victory, compared to 11 points from Mário Leopoldo, who is only 17 years old.
This triumph at Projunior Porto & Matosinhos gives the young surfer from Carcavelos, aged 19, the lead in the men’s ranking, where he is one of the main candidates to succeed Martim Nunes, the three-time national junior champion, who will no longer compete in this category this year.

On the women’s side, Maria Salgado proved her favouritism in the event and continued the national junior title she won last year. The young 18-year-old surfer from Santa Cruz won all of her heats in the first women’s rounds. Then, in the semifinals, she convincingly beat Teresa Pereira, while Lua Escudeiro beat Maria Dias.
The decisive duel was very evenly matched between Maria Salgado and Lua Escudeiro, but it was a 7-point wave that helped the current champion triumph in the northern stage and take the lead in the women’s ranking. Maria Salgado scored a total of 13 points, compared to Lua Escudeiro’s 12.05.

São Jacinto, in Aveiro, will host the third and penultimate stage of the Junior Tour 2025, which will take place on June 21 and 22 and will play an important role in the U-20 national title tally.
