Today debutes the film about the life of Antonio Variações in over 60 movie theaters across the country

The movie “Variações” is about the Portuguese singer António Variações and debuts today all over the country.

João Maia’s acclaimed film about the musician António Variações, who died in 1984 at the age of 39, opens today in about 60 Portuguese cinemas.

“Variações” is inspired by the life of the barber António Joaquim Rodrigues Ribeiro, who wanted to make a living from music.

The film focuses mainly on the transformation of Ribeiro to Variações, in a period of life between 1977 and 1981.

The lead role is played by actor Sérgio Praia, 42, who, in addition to the physical interpretation of the musician, also sings all the songs recreating the composition sessions and embryonic recording of the themes in various cassettes until the first performance of Variações, in Trump’s disco in Lisbon in 1981.

Bold and irreverent, influenced by fado, popular music and pop-rock, António Variações died at the age of 39 on June 13, 1984.

He left only two albums edited shortly before his death: “Anjo da Guarda”, in 1983, and “Dar e Receber”, in 1984.

In addition to Sérgio Praia, the cast includes names such as Filipe Albuquerque, Lucia Moniz, Afonso Lagarto, Filipe Duarte, Victoria Guerra, Augusto Madeira and Dinarte Freitas.

The premiere of the movie “Variações” was on Monday in the homeland of the singer, in Fiscal, in the municipality of Amares.
